Shauna Bookal
A passion for volunteering and giving back to the community.
Shauna graduated from Brock University (BSM ’05) and then went on to pursue post-graduate studies: first attaining a Sport Business Management Graduate Certificate from Durham College in June 2006, then moving on to complete a Master of Science and Sports Management from West Virginia University in May 2008.
Currently the Manager of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Student Experience for the Ontario University Athletics (OUA). Some of her responsibilities include: provide expertise and advice to internal and external community regarding EDI- and Safe Sport related matters and guidance, oversight, and administrative support for Institutions, Coaches, Officials, and Student-Athletes.
Shauna was one of 10 Canadians selected to sit on the Federal Ministerial Advisory Committee on Sport from November 2022 to April 2023. The purpose of this Advisory Committee is to advise the Minister of Sport on a variety of sport-related topics including safe sport, governance and funding approaches. Through hard work and dedication to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Sport, especially at the amateur sport level, Shauna developed, implemented and executed the first ever Diversity in Sports Conference with a focus on amateur sport in June 2023.
In addition to her extensive portfolio, Shauna has a passion for volunteering and giving back to the community. Shauna enjoys sharing her time and expertise by sitting on large sporting event organizing committees like the Pan Am Games, Invictus Games, North American Indigenous Games and Ontario ParaSport Games.
